25th WasteCon 2020

Dear Colleagues,

We are proud to announce that the 25th WasteCon flagship conference and exhibition, hosted by the Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa (IWMSA), will take place from
6-8 October 2020
at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, Gauteng.

We invite you to join us at WasteCon 2020 a premier showcase of best practice and sustainable waste management solutions.

The conference will take place over a period of three days with plenary, parallel and workshop sessions, and panel discussions. A technical tour will also take place after the conference on 9 October. Watch this space and make sure that you book your seat in advance as space will be limited.

We are also planning a fun-filled social programme that will provide delegates, speakers, exhibitors and guests with world class networking opportunities. The social program also provides a perfect platform to meet up with old friends and to make new ones.

In addition, the exhibition floor and outdoor exhibition will showcase the many innovative products and services that service providers to the industry have to offer. The exhibition will also be open to the public.

We look forward to seeing you at WasteCon 2020..!

The Circular Economy has been touted as a potential solution - an attractive concept that challenges the existing ‘take-make-waste’ linear model, and proposes a, circular, more holistic approach to growth that works for both business and the environment.

The circular economy is a new way of creating value, and ultimately prosperity. It works by extending product lifespan through improved design and servicing, and relocating waste from the end of the supply chain to the beginning - in effect, using resources more efficiently by using them over and over, not only once.

The circular economy is so named to reflect the patterns and systems of reuse and recycling of products indefinitely. Each product at end-of-life becoming a new resource rather than merely being discarded. The circular economy recognises the value of ‘waste items’, re purposing them as alternative resources that can be used again and again in a circular goods cycle. Products are designed for durability, reuse and recyclability, and materials for new products come from old products. As much as possible, everything is reused, re manufactured, recycled back into a raw material, used as a source of energy, or as a last resort, disposed of.

Over-exploitation of the planet’s natural resources has led to the idea behind the circular economy. Emerging at the beginning of the last decade, hot on the heels of the “cradle to cradle” theory, the circular economy is about recycling everything we produce, while at the same time generating zero pollution.
